Quality maintenance of hair extensions
Well-maintained hair extensions are the crowning glory of a client's beauty. The expert team at Kinnuse knows that the secret to first-class extensions lies in their careful care and the use of the right products. Maintaining natural-looking extensions requires professionalism and dedication to your hair care routine. In this article, we share invaluable advice to help you guide your clients to maintain the shine and vibrancy of their hair extensions.
The cornerstone of a quality treatment routine is choosing the right products. We recommend using shampoos and conditioners that gently cleanse extensions without drying them out. Deep moisturising masks and effective heat protection products are also essential to protect extensions from the damaging effects of heat and the environment.
Washing and drying hair extensions
A wash routine is a key part of hair extensions treatment. We recommend that our clients wash their extensions 1-2 times a week to keep them vibrant but not dry. Use cool or lukewarm water when washing, as water that is too hot can damage the attachment points of the extensions and contribute to tangling. Wash extensions gently, apply shampoo to the roots, lather gently and allow the lather to run down the lengths without vigorous rubbing.
When drying, it is recommended to pat the hair dry with a soft towel and avoid unnecessary rubbing. Air drying is the gentlest option for extensions. If you use a hairdryer, choose a low temperature and keep it far enough away from the hair. The use of a heat protector is essential before using heat appliances such as straighteners or curling irons.
Brushing and styling hair extensions
Proper brushing of hair extensions is the cornerstone of maintenance. We recommend using a soft and flexible bristle brush to brush hair, starting at the ends and gently working your way up. This prevents unnecessary pulling and reduces stress on the attachment points. Advise your clients to be especially gentle with wet hair, as it is more prone to damage.
When styling, you should favour hair-saving methods. Avoid overuse of hot styling tools and opt for natural styling methods such as braids, rollers or bean curlers. When using heat appliances, make sure that extensions are protected by a good quality heat shield and that the temperature of the appliance is appropriate.
Nocturnal treatment and protection of extensions
At night, hair extensions can easily get tangled. We advise our clients to sleep on a satin pillow or tie their hair in a loose braid or bun before going to bed. This helps reduce rubbing and tangling during the night. The satin finish also reduces friction, which helps extensions stay smooth and shiny.
It is important to protect hair extensions from external stresses such as UV rays from the sun, salty seawater and chlorinated swimming pool water. Use products containing UV protection and recommend that your clients protect their extensions with a hat or scarf in the sun. When in the water, it is advisable to keep the extensions closed and avoid getting them wet.
